At home in Tasmania

This poem was inspired by the surface of Sarah Purvey’s ceramic art and the realisation that, as I settle back into Tasmania, I am even further away from appreciating the work in the flesh. In that sense it is a poem of deliberation and longing. It is also a poem that arose during a period of high rise living just outside Shanghai, when my contact with earth and nature had become most remote and was gnawing at my being. Since returning home on a permanent basis after a decade that longing has subsided.
