Fisher folk: Beihai, Guangdong

This section of the album falls into three discrete chapters, defined by the physical spaces they occupy. In their own way they are all dependent on the ebb and flow of the tide. The first is that of the pier, a location where deep sea trawlers are beached for maintenance in the shadow of the restaurants that serve much of their catch and in their own shadow women fossick for molluscs.

This chapter moves up river to shanty of small live aboard boat marooned on the mud, with little flow in the river.

This chapter also documents the shoreline fishermen, in the same vicinity, and their handcranked tidal nets. This album was taken in 2006.
